A Living Tradition
Contemporary makers continue to form, glaze, and fire celadon while bringing this material tradition into present-day life. The Process
From Clay to Celadon
Each piece moves through a sequence of forming, refining, glazing, and firing in which small differences remain part of the finished work.Clay Preparation
Clay is refined and prepared to create a stable, responsive body for forming.
Forming
Vessels are shaped by hand, with proportion and balance established before the clay begins to dry.
Trimming & Detailing
The form is refined while the clay remains workable, with edges, feet, and surface details carefully considered.
Drying & First Firing
The clay is allowed to dry before an initial firing prepares the body for glazing.
Glaze Application
Celadon glaze is applied with care so tone, depth, carved detail, and edges remain balanced.
High-Temperature Firing
The final firing transforms the glaze and reveals the individual green tone, depth, and surface of the finished piece.
